Re-sort Accounts Alphabetically

QuickBooks sorts accounts alphabetically only within the same account type. After editing or adding an account, sometimes QuickBooks does not put the account in its group in alphabetical order. Scan your Chart of Accounts now, and re-sort the list if it is not alphabetical.

In the example below, the accounts are not sorted alphabetically, making it difficult to find an account and causing your reports to be inconsistent.

Procedure:

1) Open your chart of accounts by clicking on the "Lists" on the menu bar.

2) Select the "Chart of Accounts " menu.

3) Click on "Account".

4) Click on "Re-sort List".

A window will pop "Are you sure you want to return this list to its original order?"

6) Click "OK".

The accounts are sorted alphabetically within the same account type.

By re-sorting the Chart of Accounts alphabetically, you will not experience having accounts "disappear". You will be able to find all the accounts in the places where they belong.
