When you have a 'parent' account with only one subaccount, the 'parent' account, the subaccount, and the total for the 'parent' account are all listed separately in your reports. It is much cleaner to make the subaccount an 'independent' account and to delete the 'parent' account.
The example below shows that in the Chart of Accounts "Business Tax" is listed as a subaccount of "Taxes". All transactions have been posted to "Business Tax".
"Taxes", "Business Tax", and "Total Taxes" are all listed in the Profit and Loss report. To
correct this, we should make "Business Tax" an independent account and delete the "Taxes" account.

Procedure:
1) Open your Chart of Accounts.
2) Put the cursor of your mouse on the diamond to the left of the subaccount "Business Tax" so that it becomes a cross arrow; then drag it a quarter of an inch to the left. Release the mouse button.

3) "Business Tax is now an independent account and the account "Taxes" can be deleted. Refer to page 12 for the procedure to delete unused accounts.
Now "Business Tax" appears on your Profit and Loss report on one line only, and the account "Taxes" has disappeared from the Chart of Accounts.
